So, it’s June 2018 and fuck me; it got here FAST! Big doings in June: it’s LGBTQ PRIDE —YEA Bisexual Visibility— it’s also my birthday month; I’m turning 48. I expected to feel older; seemed old when I was 25, not so much now. Funny how that happens.
I’m writing, the 70s and 80s music is going in the background, and a severe thunderstorm is rolling in. Bubba’s upstairs ‘organizing’ and as long as he keeps his obsessively clutter-averse hands out of my craft closet, he can toss out whatever he thinks needs to go. Life is good.
I desperately needed an art fix. Also, I wanted to do something special for Pride. Here I am, declaring myself unambiguously, in bold, beautiful color. I am Queer; I am Bisexual. At 48 years old, I’ve earned the right NOT to feel ashamed of who I am. I have cast off that shame and embraced joy.
To all those in pain, struggling with the self-loathing and shame they inherited from their upbringing, I say this: wholeness is possible. Peace and happiness are within your reach.
