Well Here's What I Think...

Thankful

During my latest internet house hunting session, I spotted the listing for an amazingly priced, 4-bed, 3-bath, 3000 sq. Ft. fixer-upper on Hilton Head Island’s ocean-side. Immediately I think it’s perfect! We wouldn’t have to live there during the reno. I can manage the project remotely from Sandra Place. We’ll need to renovate an older house anyway to get the location, sq footage, and price we want, why not this one? Bonus: someone already finished the demo! What an exciting opportunity to make the house ours!

Bubba is wise to my wily ways; he knows I tend to dive in, head-first, without knowing the water’s depth. I had to chill; I had to pick the right moment. That moment happened while watching the latest “Property Brothers.”

Casually, I said, “so I found a serious fixer-upper on HHI ocean side for under 400K; current owner already gutted it."

I got a little excited when Bubba didn’t immediately come back with “You’re nuts” or “Bored much, now that you’re out of school?” or “it’s not as easy as it looks on HGTV.”  But then

Bubba: “Sure, if the Property Brothers themselves do the reno,” which is Bubba’s amusing way of saying you're smoking crack, dear, there's no way we’re purchasing that fixer-upper.

I’m thankful Bubba checks my delusional impulses, especially when the “exciting opportunity” involves throwing thousands and thousands of dollars into a hurricane-ravaged house 559 miles away from our primary residence.

I'm thankful that this Thanksgiving is our 27th together. The crockpot is doing all the cooking, we're going to spend the day at the movies. "Murder on the Orient Express" and "Justice League", I think.  I'm thankful for the long weekend. I'm thankful I get to spend a stress-free holiday with my favorite person, doing one of our favorite things.
